Committee of Audit Heads Visits NCCE, Reaffirms Commitment to Accountability in COEs

The Committee of Heads of Internal Audit Directorates in Nigerian Colleges of Education (CHIADINCOE), on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Professor Paulinus Chijioke Okwelle, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Chairman of CHIADINCOE and Director of Audit, Federal College of Education Katsina, Mr. Muhyudeen Abbas Mashi, expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Secretary for his unwavering support and consistent engagement with the association.

He commended Professor Okwelle for his visionary leadership and outstanding stewardship in the effective regulation and coordination of Colleges of Education across Nigeria, noting that his transformative initiatives and commitment to teacher education have continued to uplift standards and strengthen institutions nationwide.

“We remain witnesses to your commitment, guidance, and the open-door policy that have made our engagements fruitful. Your fatherly role and constant encouragement during our meetings have continued to inspire us,” Abbas remarked.

He emphasized that the visit was not only to show appreciation but also to brief the Executive Secretary on the committee’s activities and to seek his continued support. He reaffirmed CHIADINCOE’s commitment to upholding the principles of accountability, transparency, and integrity in their audit functions, all geared toward the growth and proper financial stewardship of Colleges of Education. In his response, Professor Okwelle appreciated the delegation for the visit and their continuous cooperation with the Commission. He lauded the critical role internal auditors play in ensuring financial discipline and accountability within institutions. “The work of internal auditors cannot be overemphasized,” he stated. “You serve as a guide for both internal and external checks and balances, which are essential for institutional stability and growth.”

The visit further cemented the collaborative relationship between CHIADINCOE and the NCCE, with both parties reaffirming their shared goal of advancing quality assurance and sound financial practices in teacher education institutions.
