Following the discovery of fraudulent issuance of NCE Statement of Results by the authority of Mufutau Lanihun College of Education, Ibadan, by JAMB officials during one of their assignments, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, directed the Commission to investigate the matter further.

The Executive Secretary, Professor Paulinus Chijioke Okwelle and some officials of the Commission met with the college Governing Council Chairman, Professor Ayo Hammed and the Acting Provost, Dr Zaheed Osho, on 16th July, 2025, to unravel the ugly development. In his presentation, Professor Hammed profusely apologized for the huge embarrassment the incident had caused the Federal Ministry of Education and the Commission.
He informed the meeting that its Governing Council has taken some drastic steps to unravel the situation and to avoid a recurrence. These include suspension of the Principal Officers and officials fingered in the saga; setting up of a high-powered visitation panel to investigate activities of the college since its inception, liaising with the Nigeria Police to further confirm the authenticity of the incident and publishing of rejoinders in national dailies and online handles.

The Chairman confirmed that those involved have confessed to the police of committing the crime. He further reported that the college could not provide some of the documents requested by the Commission because of the ongoing investigation by the police. He said the police locked up the offices of the culprits to prevent tampering with evidence. However, the college was able to provide information which were unauthenticated by authority due to the suspension of the staff involved.

He promised to present the updated versions of the documents in due course. Finally, the Chairman appealed to the Executive Secretary to temper justice with mercy so that the legacy of the proprietor, Late Alhaji Ajadi Lanihun is not obliterated.

Responding, the Executive Secretary expressed his concerns about the shameful incident. He said that the Honourable Minister of Education has also expressed his displeasure on the matter and directed the Commission to get to the root of it and report back.  Snow
After a lengthy discussion, the college was directed to present a comprehensive report and documents on certification since inception, the current student population and correction of inconsistencies in the data presented. Equally, it was observed that the college had processed original NCE certificates up to the 2017/2018 academic session but had yet to respond to the directive given by the Commission on the results presented for the 2018/2019 academic session.
The results from the 2019/2020 to 2023/2024 sessions were yet to be presented by the college to the Commission for vetting. In addition, the college delegation was informed that the college was due for accreditation and had earlier been directed to carry out the exercise without further delay to avoid the withdrawal of its operation licence.

Finally, the Executive Secretary warned the college to take necessary precautions to prevent further putting teacher education in disrepute. The Governing Council Chairman appreciated the Commission for the opportunity given to explain the embarrassing situation the college has caused the Education Sector in Nigeria. He promised that holistic reforms would be embarked upon by the Council under his leadership to prevent a recurrence.

Officials of the Commission in attendance with the Executive Secretary include: Mr. Lawrence. B Aremu, Director Special Duties; Dr. Kwami Adamu Umar, Director Academic Programmes; Mrs Oluwatoyin O. Akin-Ogunsina, Deputy Director Special Duties and Mr. Eleng Anari, Senior Administrative Officer.
